Building Community Through Basketball

Purpose Morning Hoops is all about bringing students, staff, and faculty together through a shared love for basketball. We focus on mental health, physical health, and student development, helping participants grow both personally and academically within a supportive community.

Program Objectives

Enhance Community and Belonging:

  • Create a space where people from diverse backgrounds can connect, build relationships, and strengthen the campus community.
  • Foster a sense of belonging.

Promote Wellness and Physical Health:

  • Encourage physical activity to improve mental health, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.
  • Emphasize the importance of balancing physical health with academic responsibilities.

Develop Life Skills:

  • Use basketball to teach teamwork, communication, leadership, stress management, time management, and self-care.
  • Provide a supportive environment for students navigating college life.

Bridge Relationships Across Campus:

  • Strengthen connections between students, staff, and faculty.
  • Promote mentorship opportunities and foster a collaborative campus culture.

Frequency: Every other week starting January 16th, 2025, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Location: Student Recreation Center, Court 1

Open Access: Welcoming all skill levels

Cost: University Recreational Center membership required; day passes available for purchase
