Attendance Policy Information
Students are responsible for ensuring that they attend all class meetings and complete all in-class and out-of-class work as assigned by the instructor. Students are also responsible for communicating with the instructor should they need to be absent.
Instructors are responsible for establishing and enforcing the attendance policy for their class. This policy should be clearly stated in the course syllabus and communicated to the students.
There may be times, however, when a student may need to miss class for some reason. When possible, the student should communicate with their instructor as soon as possible regarding the absence and make arrangements for missed work. It is the decision of the instructor to determine how the absence will be handled within the scope of their attendance policy.
If the student is not able to communicate with their instructor(s) regarding their absence due to an emergency or other extenuating circumstance a request can be made to the Office of the Dean of Students for a notification to be sent to instructors informing them of the student's absence. The notification does not serve to excuse the student's absence, it is meant only to inform the instructor(s). The student will receive a copy of the notification as well. It is the responsibility of the student to follow up with their instructor to make appropriate arrangements.
