Attendance Policy Information
Students are responsible for ensuring that they attend all class meetings and complete all in-class and out-of-class work as assigned by the instructor. Students are also responsible for communicating with the instructor should they need to be absent.
Instructors are responsible for establishing and enforcing the attendance policy for their class as stated on the course syllabus.
There may be times, however, when a student may need to miss class for some reason. When possible, the student should communicate with their instructor regarding their absence and make arrangements for missed work. It is the decision of the instructor to determine how the absence will be handled within the scope of their attendance policy.
If the student is not able to communicate with their instructor regarding their absence due to an emergency or extenuating circumstance a request can be made to the Office of the Dean of Students for notice to be sent to instructors informing them of the student’s absence. This notice will also be copied to the student and does not serve to excuse the student’s absence from class. The student is responsible for following up with their instructor to make appropriate arrangements.
